A dog walk tracker that's about the dog

Bokedex maps the route and counts the time and distance, like any walk tracker. Then it lets you note what mattered to your dog with one tap: pee, poo, sniff stops, water, treats and the dogs you met. Start on your iPhone or your Apple Watch.

Bokedex walk screen: a park route on the map with pins for pee and sniff stops, 492 m walked, 2 sniff stops, and the log buttons for pee, poo, sniff, water, treat, met a dog and barked or pulled.
Bokedex on Apple Watch during a walk: 390 m so far, with Pause and End buttons.

How it works

Three steps.

  1. Pick who's coming

Choose the dogs on the walk and tap Start walk. For a puppy, Bokedex shows a suggested length for their age.

  2. Walk and tap

The route draws itself as you go. Tap Pee, Poo, Sniff or any other note, and a pin marks the spot. Pause from the Lock Screen or the Dynamic Island.

  3. Save the walk

The summary shows the map, time, distance and every note. Walks collect in the Log tab, with this week's total on the Dex home.

What you can log on a walk

Seven big buttons, each one tap. Walking more than one dog? A second tap picks which dog, or all of them.

Pee and poo

Useful for house training and for spotting changes.

If today's House training check is still open, the summary asks whether this walk counts. You answer; it's never automatic.

Sniff

Sniffing is how dogs read the neighborhood, and for many it's the best part of the walk.

The summary counts sniff stops, so a slow, sniffy walk shows up as a good one.

Water and treat

Note drinks on hot days and treats used for training on the go.

Met a dog

Mark each meeting Calm or Not quite.

After two tense meetings, the summary points you to the Calm around dogs drill.

Barked or pulled

Mark the moment it happened, with a pin where it happened.

With Premium it opens Problem moments, with “On a walk” filled in, to help you find what sets it off.

Short walks for puppies

Puppies tire quickly, and too much walking makes a restless puppy. Add your puppy's birthday and Bokedex suggests a walk length for their age: about 10 minutes at three months, plus about 5 for every month after that, until one year old. Walking more than one puppy, the youngest sets the length. When you reach it, the walk says “Good time to head home”.

Train on the walk

Some training steps only happen outside: Sit on a walk, Loose leash on a short walk, Leave it on a real walk, and the passes in Calm around dogs. When one is next in your plan, the walk screen offers “Practise on this walk” and runs the set right there, the same as at home. A skill counts as solid once it works in two places, and walks are where the second place comes from.

Lock the phone and walk

The route keeps recording with the screen locked. A Live Activity shows the time, distance and dogs on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, with a Pause button. Pausing stops the clock, the distance and the GPS, to save battery. If the app closes mid-walk, Bokedex offers the walk back next time you open it, so you can save it or let it go.

Walks on Apple Watch

With Premium, start a walk from your wrist. The watch shows the time and distance, with the log one swipe away, and the walk runs as a workout so it keeps going with your wrist down. When you finish, it goes to your iPhone and joins your other walks.

Apple Health, if you want it

Your dog's walk is your walk too. With Premium, turn on Save to Apple Health and each walk is saved as a walking workout with its distance and route, so it counts toward your own activity. It's off by default. Bokedex writes walks to Health and never reads your Health data.

Your route stays on your iPhone

Bokedex asks for your location only while you use the app, never Always, and uses it only from Start walk to Finish. Routes stay on your iPhone: they aren't uploaded or synced to iCloud, and we can't see them. Delete a walk at any time from its detail screen.

Good to know. Distance comes from GPS and is most precise under open sky. Each walk keeps its route, time, distance and every note you tapped.

Questions

Walks: common questions

Is the dog walk tracker free?

Yes. Free covers walks with one dog: the map, time, distance, the log and pause, plus your last 30 days of walks. Premium adds several dogs per walk, your full history, this week's walks per dog, walks on Apple Watch and Save to Apple Health.

Can I use it as a potty log?

On walks, yes. Every pee and poo is saved with its time and a pin on the map, and the walk's detail lists them. For house training at home, the House training skill in Train asks the daily questions, like “Out after every nap today?”.

Does it keep tracking with the screen locked?

Yes. The route keeps recording with the screen locked, iOS shows its location indicator, and you can pause from the Lock Screen.

Does Bokedex track my location all the time?

No. It asks for While Using permission, never Always, and uses your location only during a walk.

Can I walk more than one dog?

Yes, with Premium. Pick everyone in Who's coming?, and each note can name one dog or all of them. The walk is saved for every dog on it.

Does it work on Apple Watch?

Yes, with Premium. Start a walk from the watch and log from your wrist. The finished walk is sent to your iPhone.

Will walks show up in Apple Health?

Only if you turn on Save to Apple Health (Premium). Each walk is then saved as a walking workout with its route and distance.
